This Natural Essential Oil Will Easily Repel Ticks! Read How
This period of the year we are all searching for ways to repel ticks. Of course we don’t want to use harsh chemicals. Luckily for us, there is natural sweet-smelling alternative proving to be very powerful in the fight against this current and growing concern.
Ticks are using their sense of smell. They don’t jump or fall from trees. Instead, they are actually coming and climbing to the top of a blade of plant or grass. They stick their front legs up in the air, waiting for the scent of a victim to walk by. We call their front pair of legs Haller’s organs. They detect smell, movement, temperature and carbon dioxide. This is how they know that you are approaching or coming. And since we all known that they like moisture and warmth, they are waiting for a moist or warm environment to call their home. For some reason, the best part about this is that they are not attracted to the scent of rose geranium essential oil.
It is true solution to repel ticks!
Rose geranium oil has two varieties. Pelargonium capitatum x radens is the one with the botanical name . Pelargonium graveolens is the more popular rose geranium oil. It is from the same family, but not the same species.
We need to dilute most essential oils. But rose geranium does not fall into this group if we use it in small doses. You only need few drops to do the job. Simply put one drop on each ankle and on the wrists, one on the back of the neck and a little behind the knees. We all know how dogs are sensitive to smell. Therefore, go easy on the oil when using it. One drop at the top of the base of the tail and behind each shoulder blade. Be careful to avoid the nose and the face because they are very sensitive.
Other essential oils like lemongrass, lavender, eucalyptus, citronella and cedar wood are very helpful if you want to repel ticks and unwanted insects. Before using, please check specific directions to ensure safety for dilution purposes.
Whatever scent you use, take caution and remember to double-check yourself from head to toe after coming in from a summer stroll.
The essential oil of rose geranium is not a mixture of geranium and rose oils. It is one single oil.
