Using E-Cigarettes Increases the Risk of Deadly Disease

People often consider E-cigarettes  as a healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes. That is why many people pick up the new modern habit in order to help them stop smoking. Bit it turns out that e-cigarettes aren’t much better for our health. Researchers say that just one puff from an e-cigarette is enough to increase the risk of heart attack.

How?

The Study

West Virginia University Researchers analyzed the effects of e-cigarette exposure on the arteries of mice. They looked at both short-term (5 minutes) and long-term exposure (20 hours over a week in a period of eight months). The results showed that after just a five-minute exposure to e-cigarette vapor the mice’s arteries actually narrowed by 30% within an hour. The arteries also began to lower blood pressure and  lose their ability to dilate.

When the mice were exposed to long-term use of e-cigarette, they developed arteries that were more than twice as stiff as those that weren’t given any nicotine. Previous researches shown that stiff or narrow arteries can result in stroke or heart attacks or stroke. The researchers explained very well: “These data indicate that e- cigarettes should not be considered safe and they induce significant deleterious effects.”

Cigarettes Vs. E-cigarettes

Maybe smokers who use e-cigarettes are more likely to stop smoking. But the present research suggests that they may be moving on to another very dangerous habit. Studies have shown that vaping increases a wannabe-quitter’s chance of success. About 65% of vapers attempt to stop smoking, compared to around 40% of smokers who do not use e-cigarettes.

The director of the health and lifestyle research unit at Queen Mary University, Peter Hajek, said:

“It’s 100% clear that e-cigarettes help smokers replace cigarettes.”

The director of the Heart Association’s Tobacco Research Center in USA, Dr. Aruni Bhatnagar, only added:

“We don’t know if using e-cigarettes is good enough to reduce the real harm.”
