This Happens to the Brain of This Man who Eats 2 Tbs Coconut Oil Twice a Day
Dr. Mary Newport believes that coconut oil can offer amazing and profound benefits for the brain and in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. This oil is natural and alternative fuel for our brain. If her theory is accurate, this could be actually one of the greatest natural health discoveries in last decades.
This woman has her own personal history with Alzheimer’s. In fact, Steve, her husband, in his mid-50s, suffered from progressive dementia for at least five years. He had an MRI that supported a clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. She takes him a case study.
“Very often, for several days in a row, my husband was in a fog. Actually he couldn’t find a spoon or even remember how to get water out of the fridge… One day I would ask if a certain call came that I was expecting and he would say ‘No.’ Two days later he would remember the message from a couple of days earlier from so-and-so and what they said.”
Dr. Newport made a conclusion that her husband had no short-term memory. But the information was still “hidden” somewhere in his brain. She had a feeling that there was something to do with his diet. He then began taking medication hoping that it would help slow the process. But he lost weight, became depressed, forgot how to cook, use a calculator or even perform simple addition. Steve forgot how to perform many every day or common tasks, but would spend all day working in his garage or in the yard and remained in good physical condition.
There were a couple of studies about the potential use of ketone bodies or medium chain triglycerides not only to treat but also to prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Medium chain triglycerides are also considered as a potential treatment for Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, drug resistant epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and diabetes.
Dr. Newport says, “In newborns through adults, Ketone bodies may actually help the brain recover after a loss of oxygen. They may shrink cancerous tumors and may help the heart recover after an acute attack. Children with drug resistant epilepsy sometimes respond to an extremely low carbohydrate ketogenic diet.”
When glucose is unavailable, the body’s cells may be able to use ketone bodies as an alternative fuel. Normally, ketone bodies do not circulate in the body unless it has been starving for a few days, or if one is on a very low-carb diet, such as Atkins. She also explains, “The neurons, in Alzheimer’s disease, in certain areas of the brain are unable to take in glucose due to insulin resistance, and slowly die off. If these cells had access to ketone bodies, they could potentially continue to function and stay alive.”
The Results of 2 Tbs Coconut Oil
To make a long story short, Dr. Newport started giving a daily dose of coconut oil to her husband, Steve. Just 60 days after he started taking it, Dr. Newport recalls that Steve was happy and alert, making jokes and talkative. The tremor he’d developed was less noticeable. Instead of being easily distracted, he was able to concentrate on one task.
Twice a day, Steve receives about 2 tbs coconut oil, to make sure that there are no periods where ketone bodies aren’t circulating.
After one year of this pure natural treatment, Dr. Newport says her husband is totally different person. She also notes that he still has difficulty finding some words, but on a family trip he recognized relatives. He participated actively in conversations, and his facial expressions were more animated.
She adds, “For now, we are very happy with where he is at. Should coconut oil stop or slow down the progress of his disease, it will be worth every drop that he takes.”
