Which 18 Brands Of Lipstick Are Rich in Cancer-Causing Heavy Metals!?
Companies that produce personal care products like lipstick or makeup for example, each year make billions of dollars from consumers. All the time they bust out new products and the United States government doesn’t require any obligatory testing for these beauty products before they actually hit shelves. Even if we’re very careful in avoiding toxins in our food, household cleaning products or drinks, they may be hiding somewhere we didn’t expect. That place is in our makeup.
You might often check food labels because you want to consume healthy food. But have you ever thought checking the labels of your favorite makeup? What about all of your personal care products? Deodorant, lipstick, shampoo and other products for personal care are usually not required to “pass” the testing process. Many of them don’t even contain an entire list of ingredients.
If you apply lipstick couple of times a day, each day, you could be ingesting high amounts of lead over your lifetime. You don’t just ingest chemicals. Your skin can also absorb them, which makes your makeup a major culprit.
Heavy Metals In Your Favorite Makeup
Environmental Defense group based in Canada tested 49 different makeup products in a report titled “Heavy Metal Hazard: The Health Risks of Hidden Heavy Metals In Face Makeup.” They made a test on 49 different makeup items, including:
- 14 eye shadows,
- 8 glosses or lipsticks
- 7 mascaras,
- 5 blushes or bronzers,
- 5 foundations
- 4 concealers,
- 4 powders,
- 2 eye liners,
Researchers found serious heavy metal contamination in all of these products. In fact, 61% contained thallium, 90% contained beryllium and 96% contained lead. They also found that 20% contained arsenic and 51% contained the metal called cadmium.
The bad news: most of the products contained an average of 4-8 metals tested.
The even worse news: each product contained average 2-4 metals of the highest concern, which were cadmium, arsenic, mercury and lead. These metals are bad and toxic. They can trigger many serious health issues.
Couple of years ago, one report of FDA listed 400 different lipsticks that contained trace amounts of lead. The report added that the levels were low, so they did not pose a safety concern. Dr. Mark Mitchell, co-chairman of the Environmental Health Task Force for the National Medical Association disagrees. He said, “Lead builds in the body over time and lead-containing lipstick applied every day, few times a day, can add up to important exposure levels.”
Exposure To Heavy Metals Can Increase Your Cancer Risk
In the Canada study, 51% of the products tested contained cadmium. Cadmiun is a known carcinogenic material. Research has found cadmium in breast cancer biopsies. It’s used be cancer cells to multiply in lab trials. A serious concern is the fact that many of these metals don’t cause serious health problems immediately. Instead, they cause the body to develop problems over time. With consistent use, they may increase your risk of cancer, reproductive disorders and many other health issues.
